Steve Smith begins his redemption journey with a heart-winning message to a young fan
The 9-year-old Darcy was devastated after watching his emotional press conference the other day.
The way Steve Smith broke down during his press conference at Sydney airport on Thursday was a heart-breaking scene for any cricket fan. He apologised to the nation time and again for his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal and took full responsibility for the same. While he was consoled by a lot of current and former cricketers on social media, it was his father who comforted him at the presser. However, he has begun his journey towards redemption as he passed a wonderful message to a nine-year-old cricket fan and apologised to him as well.
Cricket Australia has reacted harshly on Smith and David Warner over the issue and has banned them for a year, while Cameron Bancroft was banned for 9 months. All of them were regretting for bringing the game into disrepute and even they didn’t know that the event might affect their careers this way. Though they might have learned their lesson and should come back strongly after serving their respective punishments.
Smith apologises to a kid
Steve Smith was completely heartbroken in the press conference which must have surely brought tears to anyone’s eyes. The 9-year-old Darcy, the son of Nine Network’s news presenter Deborah Knight, was no different to it as he was disconsolate after watching him cry helplessly. Deborah had taken to Twitter to express her sentiments after she took 20 minutes to console his crying child.
“Just spent 20 minutes consoling my crying 9-year-old who is a major Steve Smith fan after he watched the press conference. Encouraging him and all kids to write Steve a letter telling him how much you love and admire him,” she tweeted.
However, when Smith got to know about the same, he texted Deborah Knight and personally apologised to her son after which she was highly impressed of the cricketer. “Could you please apologise personally to your son for me. Sorry that I made him upset also,” he texted her. This gesture from Smith surely is a heart-winning one and will surely melt a lot of hearts once again.
