Suresh Raina explains the importance of experienced players present in the CSK line-up
The southpaw is one of the most important players in the CSK lineup.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been some sensational and remarkable cricket in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The two-time champions have already certified their place in the playoffs and now will be looking to continue their blistering form to finish as one of the top two teams in the league stages of IPL 2018.
The CSK veteran batsman Suresh Raina dismissed some harsh claims against the ‘aged’ tag of the CSK line-up and explained the importance of having experienced players in a team.
In the present line-up of the CSK side, most of the players which include the likes of Ambati Rayudu, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, skipper MS Dhoni are in the age group of exceeding 30. However, each of these champion cricketers has contributed extensively in the victories which the team has registered so far in the tournament.
Both the openers Rayudu and Watson have been continuously providing steady starts in the powerplay as the duo has amassed more than 400 runs each in the season. 36-year old skipper MS Dhoni has also been in his vintage touch in finishing crucial games.
The experience present in CSK is always needed: Raina
In the bowling unit, the likes of Harbhajan, Bravo, Jadeja have also contributed with important wickets at pressure situations and the veteran cricketers had stood up when the franchise needed it most from them. Raina mentioned that everyone has said a lot about the age factor of the CSK players, but the experience which all these veteran cricketers bring into the team is uncountable. The left-hander also credited his CSK skipper for showing the world his explosive heroics and finishing games at will despite being 36 years old.
Dhoni has scored 413 runs in the 12 matches so far, with a blistering average of more than 100, which includes 3 half-centuries. “People have been saying that our team is quite aged, but you need experience. All credit goes to Dhoni as you can see he is playing freely. In the IPL, he has shown that he can still play very well despite being 35-36,” said Raina as quoted by DNA.
