Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar was included in the team due to his ability to bowl fast leg-spin as compared to Yuzvendra Chahal, who was omitted from the squad for the showpiece event. Chahar made quite a name for himself for his state team Rajasthan and as well in the IPL for Mumbai Indians. He also had a great white-ball series against Sri Lanka as he picked three wickets in his debut ODI game and ended up picking four wickets in the two T20Is.

Chahar’s impressive performance in the IPL for MI was also one of the clinchers for the selectors to include him in the T20 World Cup squad. In the India leg of the IPL, he had taken 11 wickets in the 11 games but, he has largely looked ineffective in the UAE leg so far and has picked only two wickets in four matches. Worst, his lack of form has coincided with MI’s dip in form too. Apart from Chahar, India have four more spinners in the T20 World Cup squad, but the leg-spinner’s recent form must be a sign of concern for the management.
