T20 World Cup 2022: 5 Records that can be broken in the tournament
The upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 might see many individual records getting shattered.
Records are meant to be broken be it individual or collective or even in any major tournament for that matter. Over the years many World Cup records have been made and shattered courtesy of some outstanding performances on the cricket field. Meanwhile, many records have been made in the ICC T20 World Cup ever since its inception in 2007.
Be it Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad or Chris Gayle becoming the very first centurion in the history of this competition, the showpiece event in T20 cricket has witnessed many milestone moments in the past till the last edition in 2021 in the UAE. There will be one more T20 World Cup that will be played this year down under in October-November and without further ado, here’s a look at the five records that can be shattered in the eighth edition of the T20 World Cup.
5 Records that can be broken in T20 World Cup 2022:
1. Rohit Sharma’s chance to surpass Yuvraj Singh’s tally of most sixes
Rohit Sharma made his first appearance in T20 World Cup during the inaugural edition in South Africa in 2007 where India beat arch-rivals Pakistan in a final-over thriller to be crowned world champions. The 2022 edition will be special for him as he will be leading the Men in Blue from the front down under.
Meanwhile, Rohit also has an opportunity of making a tremendous impact in the tournament this time around. The ‘Hitman’ needs just 3 sixes to surpass his former India teammate and good friend Yuvraj Singh’s tally of 33 to become the Indian batter with the most maximums in the T20 World Cups.
At the same time, even Virat Kohli has a chance of going past this tally. The batting megastar has 20 sixes to his name in the showpiece event and should he regain his purple patch back in Australia then it might be possible for him to either shatter this record or come close.
