The 18th edition of the IPL 2025 is set to be watched with keen interest by fans across the globe as the franchises will be adding several new players in the mega-auction to bolster their sides. Apart from defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), no other team retained their full quota of six players. At least five teams need to find captains at the auction, and it will be interesting to see how they go about in the mega-auction, which is set to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25.

Last season, KKR won the coveted title after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final. It didn't come as a surprise when KKR retained the maximum limit of six players ahead of the mega-auction. However, Shreyas Iyer, who captained them last season, asked for a release as he wanted to test his value in the auction. Meanwhile, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, who led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) last season, respectively, are going into the auction as well.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have only retained two players, the fewest ahead of the auction. They are looking to revamp their squad after failing to qualify for the playoffs since IPL 2014. The Kings have the biggest remaining purse (INR 110.50 crore) heading into the auction. Meanwhile, RR has the lowest purse, having just INR 41 crore after retaining their core players.

Fans are waiting with bated breath to see how their favourite teams go about in the mega-auction as the goal will be to assemble formidable squads that can help them bag the coveted title.

IPL Points Table 2025 Rules

A victory will fetch two points, while a loss accounts for zero points accrued. In the event of a Draw, a point will be given to both the competing teams. Similarly, if a match is abandoned or cannot be concluded due to weather or external agents, both teams will secure one point each. In addition to points, the Net Run Rate will be taken in consideration for higher position on the table in case of equinumerous points among multiple teams. This metric becomes crucial as a tiebreaker in situations where two or more teams have the same number of points.
