After losing their first IPL 2020 game by the narrowest of margins, KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday and opened their tally in the points table. Skipper Rahul led his side from the front and steered KXIP to a massive 206-run total.

In response, the Bangalore side succumbed to the pressure and collapsed on a meagre 109-run total in 17 overs. RCB was unable to match KXIP in either department as they suffered a thumping defeat by 97 runs.

The world witnessed a whirlwind knock off Rahul’s willow as he decimated the RCB bowling force including Dale Steyn. The Karnataka lad scored a sublime knock of 132* runs off just 69 balls and also bagged Man of the Match award.

Weaving his blistering batting display around 4 boundaries and 7 sixes, Rahul also scored the highest individual score in IPL history by an Indian cricketer. All his shots were a treat to watch as Rahul was timing the ball with perfection.

Some solid shots there by KL Rahul, tweets Rohit Sharma

Twitter was all about Rahul’s batting heroics as many prominent names wished the KXIP skipper on his incredible knock. Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma also took to social media to praise his ‘classy’ innings. Sharma wrote, “Some solid shots there by @klrahul11 classy hundred”

Rahul also thanked the ‘Hitman’ and said that he took inspiration from his knock against Kolkata Knight Riders. Rohit had slammed a match-winning 80 off 54 balls on Wednesday, playing a crucial role in MI’s triumph over Dinesh Karthik’s men.

With a win in their first two games, Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians have currently poised at first and second place respectively. All teams except Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Kolkata Knight Riders have won a game each but KXIP leads the list on the back of superior Net Run Rate.

After thrashing RCB, Rahul and his men will now face Rajasthan Royals on Sunday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The Punjab franchise has failed to lift the trophy even once in the tournament’s history and their best performance came in IPL 2014 when they reached the final of the league. Eyeing to clinch their maiden IPL title, KXIP will be hoping to register a winning streak this season.
