Aravinda de Silva was one of the most important players in the infancy period of Sri Lankan cricket when Sri Lanka had just started playing test cricket. A stylish middle order batsman and a handy off spinner, De Silva was probably the best player of pace bowling from the emerald island.

In total of 401 international matches, De Silva was awarded the man of the match award 41 times in his career, for both his batting and bowling. This includes the man of the match award in the 1996 World cup final win.
