Top 5 Batsmen with most runs in Tests 2014: Test cricket is demanding for both the batsmen and the bowlers. Test cricket is a bit more demanding for the batsmen. Angelo Mathews started his career off as a bowling all-rounder, but has matured himself into more of a batting all-rounder. 2014 is a game changing year for Mathews, for he has really matured as a test cricketer and as captain of the Srilankan team. He has led the team well, for the frontline batsman in him has come to the fore. Mathews has scored 1044 runs from 10 test matches at an average of 80.30. The batting average specially looks stunning for someone who made his way in Test cricket initially as a bowling all-rounder. If there is probably someone, at the moment to be called as a successor to Jacques Kallis it should be Angelo Mathews. 3. David Warner, was struggling a few years back when he decided to look test cricket batting from a different angle. The same angle Virender Sehwag, Kris Srikanth looked from. He has organised his game over the last couple of years and has taken the openers slot with both hands. David Warner has had a strike rate of 81.85 this year. Warner played 8 test matches this year, scoring 1096 runs at a very impressive average of 68.50. He must however, try to covert his centuries into double centuries and triple centuries like his mentor. That is probably the only criticism you can have against this hulk of a batsman. 1. He has been enjoying a purple patch off late, piling on the runs against the opposition bowlers. Sangakkara scored a rollicking 1431 runs at 79.50. But 319 of runs came against struggling Bangladesh. He has scored 4 centuries and 8 half centuries in 2014. No one has gotten close to the great talisman from Srilanka when it comes to the number of runs scored.
