Geoff Allott (NZ) (1999) / Shane Warne (Aus)(1999) – 20 Wickets The wily New Zealand pace man overtook Roger Binny’s 16 year old record of 18 wickets in the 1983 World cup by taking 20 wickets in the tournament. Allott was a left-handed fast bowler who could swing the ball both ways and got good help from the humid English climate to pick up 20 wickets and lead New Zealand to the semifinals where they lost to Pakistan. Aussie leg spinner Shane Warne also reached the 20 wickets mark with 4 wickets each in the semi-finals and the finals of the World cup. He took 4-29 against South Africa in the Semifinals to help tie the game, which took Australia in the finals because of them beating the Proteas in round robin league. He then again took 4-33 to rout Pakistan for just 132 in the final to help Australia win the World cup for the second time. 4. He was chosen in the squad to replace the injured Brett Lee and proved to be a great replacement. His quick deliveries in a burst of short 2-3 over spells unsettled the batsmen who had no idea how to tackle his pace. The wizard of SriLanka, Muttiah Muralitharan also took 23 wickets to help SriLanka reach the finals of the 2007 competition. The slow pitches in most of the Caribbean grounds proved helpful for him to turn the ball and bamboozle batsmen with his magic. 1.
