Sometimes an 85 can be as valuable as a 100. However, this 85 was way more valuable than just a 100. Imagine a scenario where you are batting in a knockout game in a WC semi-final against the host nation, your team is batting on a tricky wicket and is having a batting collapse.

Could you have asked for a harder situation than this? Australia’s genius however wasn’t one of those who would be afraid of such a scenario. It was in the 2019 WC semis where Smith came to bat in just the second over of the game. He kept on losing partners from the other end as he was fighting like a lone warrior.

Only the toughest thrive in such kind of situations and Smith, that day, proved that he was tougher than the toughest. He showed the world that he has nerves of steel as he went on to score a sensational 85 under pressure.

However, his valiant efforts went in vain that day as England managed to beat Australia in the semis and proceeded towards the finals. Smith was, however, praised by one and all for his outstanding knock. This was his fourth half-century in a WC knockout match, and he remains the only player to score four 50+ scores in four WC knockout matches.
