Seldom would you see a player score a 100 in a World Cup (WC) knockout match. Smith is one of those players who brings out his best whenever his team needs him the most. This century came in the semi-final of the 2015 WC.

What makes this performance even more special is the fact that it came against an Indian team which was in the form of their life. The Indian bowlers had picked 70 wickets in the 7 matches in the 2015 WC before heading into the semis.

After having won the toss and electing to bat first, Australia lost Warner very early in the innings. Smith walked in to bat at 3 in the third over and didn’t look like he was playing in the semis as he looked very confident while batting.

He went on to score a stunning 105 of 93 balls as Australia went on to post 328 on the board. India was then bundled for 233 as Australia went on to win the semi-final by 95 runs. Australia’s number 3 batsman Steve Smith won the “Player Of The Match” award as well.
