Top 5 Run getters in IPL 7 2014
.Robin Uthappa (660 runs) The highest run getter in IPL 7 is not a new name to the cricket. His talent was evident from his under 19 days but it was his inconsistency which always let him down. In this IPL he turned his weakness into his strength. He hit 11 40 plus scores in 16 games and played a vital role in KKR’s revival from a slow start in IPL 7 to being the winners.Uthappa is usually associated as a slam-bang player but his crisp drives this season specially the ones hit on the up was a testimony to his sublime form. And no wonder It’s his this form which earned him a call back for Team India duty and we hope he makes this opportunity counted.
.Dwayne Smith (566 runs) He got his team switched from last IPL season but his form did not. He did this last year for Mumbai Indians and this year even so more consistently for Chennai Super Kings. A typical hit through the line West Indian batsmen scored 5 half centuries in the season. He not only gave good starts to CSK but went on to win games of his own. He saw his partners changed from McCullum to Faf but he carried on doing what he was asked of to do for the team.
.Glenn Maxwell (552 runs) Gleendeep Singh Maxwell as named by a spectator in Mohali, he played this IPL full Punjabi style. He came off from a good form in World T20 and rocked on the first half of IPL in UAE hitting 95, 89 and 95 in first three games. He was helped by the fact that he was playing under his National side captain. Bailey and team management gave him the freedom to play the game his way and that what really made him blossom. When we look at his game he is far more than a slogger. He is one of the sweetest timers of the ball. He likes square leg and mid-wicket region but his cover and squares are even prettier. In the second half he was troubled by spinners but nevertheless was chief architect of Punjab’s success in IPL 2014.
.David Warner (528 runs) In the list at 4 is another Australian. He started batting at 3 giving his place to Aaron Finch. He played at 4 and 5 and was then played again at 4. He was getting runs consistently but it was lack of support from his other fellow batsmen which did not yield good results for Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the last games he opened for them and that’s when Warner looked his usual best. His 90 off 45 balls against CSK was a knock to watch out for.(als0 watch best of the season here.)
.Suresh Raina (523 runs) If Virat Kohli is India’s ODI run machine, Suresh Raina is IPL run machine. He has done it not for a year or two but for all seven IPL seasons. He is a man of big occasions. In the eliminator game against MI he made a well gauged 54 not out and chased 173 with support from David Hussey. In the qualifier against Kings XI Punjab CSK were blown away by Sehwag and CSK were made to chase 226. If all the men had thought it was shutters for CSK, Raina had other ideas. He took apart every Punjab bowler and played some real extraordinary shots. CSK scored 100 runs in just 6 overs with Raina scoring 87 off just 25 balls. It looked like there is no way he can get out and might overshadow Sehwag’s innings it was Bailey’s direct throw which got Raina got out and CSK lost.
