6. Duncan Fletcher vs. Australia Nottingham, 1983 – 69* and 4-42
Zimbabwe was playing their very first One Day International and that too on the World cup stage in 1983 against a start studded powerful Australian team.
Zimbabwe was asked to bat first after Australia won the toss and reduced Zimbabwe to 5 for 93. But Zimbabwean captain and current Indian coach Duncan Fletcher decided to dig in, scoring an unbeaten 69 and with the help of Kevin Curran (27) and Iain Butchart (34) took the total to a respectable 239 in allotted 60 overs.
He also turned his arm over to wreck the Australian chase with 4 wickets for 42 runs which included the wickets of Kim Hughes, David Hookes and Graeme Wood. Australia failed to reach the total by 13 runs and Zimbabwe shocked the mighty Australians in their very first game thanks to Duncan Fletcher.
