Trailblazers vs Supernovas: BCCI announces squads for Women's T20 Challenge
The team names have also been announced as it will be the tussle between the IPL Supernovas and IPL Trailblazers.
BCCI has announced the squads for the Women’s T20 Challenge game between Supernovas and Trailblazers on May 22. The match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium before the first qualifier of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) gets underway. Smriti Mandhana has been named the captain of Trailblazers and the skipper of the Indian T20 team will lead the Supernovas in the historic game. However, the game will see a total of 26 players including 10 international stars fighting it out in the one-off game.
The star players of the Indian team will rub the shoulders with some of the best foreign cricketers in the shortest format. The chairman of the IPL, Rajiv Shukla, had confirmed a few names on Tuesday while announcing the captains of the teams. Now the Australian skipper Meg Lanning has also been added to the list who will play for the Supernovas under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur. Lea Tahuhu, the medium pace bowler from New Zealand will also feature in the game for Supernovas.
How teams stack up?
While the Supernovas squad is stacked with the experience, Mandhana will lead the side which is filled with the exuberance of youth. The legendary Indian cricketer Mithali Raj will be playing under Kaur who will also have Veda Krishnamurthy, Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry in her side. The bowling attack of Supernovas includes Pooja Vastrakar, Megan Schutt, Rasjeshwari Gayakwad and Anuja Patil while Taniya Bhatia will take care of the wicketkeeping duties.
The batting department of the Trailblazers looks even strong with the presence of Beth Mooney, Alyssa Healy and Suzie Bates along with the skipper herself, Deepti Sharma and the youngster Jemimah Rodrigues. Their bowling is strengthened with experience of Jhulan Goswami and Shikha Pandey who are the new-ball bowlers of Team India. It is expected to be a thrilling encounter and the fans will also be excited about the game.
