Trans Tasman Tri-Series, NZ vs AUS, Final – Statistical Highlights

Australia remained unbeaten in the Triangular T20I series to clinch the title by winning final with 19 runs ahead on the DLS par score at the Eden Park. New Zealand marched towards another huge score like in the previous game in Auckland before going down to 110/8 in 14 overs. An unbeaten 43 from Ross Taylor helped the home team to finish with 150/9. Australia kept themselves ahead of the required rate with D’Arcy Short scoring a 30-ball fifty. They were 121/3 in 14.4 overs when the rain halted the play for the 2nd time and no more play was possible.

1 – This was the first time Australia won a multi-team T20I series and New Zealand’s first ever T20 tournament final appearance. Both the teams were part of the first ever Twenty20 International match played in 2005 at the Eden Park.

3 – New Zealand featured in a tournament final for the 3rd time at home; all of them played in Auckland and all against Australia. Both the teams featured in ODI finals in 1990 and 1995 respectively which the visiting team won comfortably after restricting the home team to 162 and 137/9.

5 – Number of matches Australia played in this Tri-Series winning all of them. These are the joint most any team played in a T20I series/tournament with 100% win record. India won all the five matches they played in the 2016 Asia Cup while Ireland won all the five matches with T20I status in the 2014 WT20 Qualifier.

6 – Number of consecutive wins for Australia in the T20I cricket. This is their joint longest winning streak in this format. Aussies won six matches in a row during the WT20 2010.

8.000 – Win-loss ratio for David Warner as a T20I captain. Australia won eight of the nine matches led by Warner. This is the highest ratio for any player who captained in at least five T20Is.

14 – Number of tournament finals New Zealand lost to Australia so far. After winning the first-ever ODI final in 1981 against the Aussies, the Kiwis lost all the 13 finals in the ODI format they played against them.

28 – D’Arcy Short’s 28-ball fifty is the fastest in any T20I tournament final. Kumar Sangakkara in the WT20 2014 final against India and Joe Root in the WT20 2016 final against Windies scored fifties off 33 balls.
