Harbhajan Singh has been one of the most efficient spinners in India. He used to play all three formats for the national team- Tests, ODI and T20Is. He also was a part of the triumphant World Cup squad that won the tournament in 2011 after 28 years under the leadership of MS Dhoni. However, he hasn’t been able to stay put in his position in any format of international cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin, the Tamil Nadu-born off-break bowler, came to the fore and immediately made an impact. It also meant that the veteran tweaker lost his place in the team. His last international match was back in 2016 when the Men in Blue faced the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Asia Cup. Nevertheless, he kept playing cricket and recently was a part of this year’s IPL.

Harbhajan’s eye-opening message

He represented the Chennai Super Kings and turned out to be a pivotal factor in their victorious campaign. He is also an active participant in the social media. Recently, he commented about Croatia’s show in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, after their defeat against France in the Final. It was Croatia’s most comprehensive performance in the history of the World Cup.

Back in 1998, they finished third. Harbhajan hailed the nation for the fact that despite having a population of 50 lakhs, they did well. However, India with a population of 150 crores, are more indulged in religion-based tussles.

He took to Twitter and wrote, ” लगभग 50 लाख की आबादी वाला देश क्रोएशिया फ़ुटबॉल वर्ल्ड कप का फाइनल खेलेगा और हम 135 करोड़ लोग हिंदू मुसलमान खेल रहे है।#soch bdlo desh bdlega.

This roughly meant “Croatia which has a population of 50 lakhs is playing FIFA World Cup while India which has a population of 135 crores is playing Hindu v/s Muslim. Change your thinking, the country will change”.

However, Twitter didn’t like the comment and they trolled the bowler for his remarks.

Here is how Twitter reacted
