Twitter Reactions: Chris Gayle breaches 10,000 run mark in T20s
Twitter goes mental as Chris Gayle reaches the landmark.
Chris Gayle became the first ever batsman to complete 10,000 T20 runs. The big moment came in RCB’s away game against Gujarat Lions when Gayle played one down to third man for a single. There was no celebration by the big man on reaching the milestone as he looked keen to contribute for the struggling RCB side.
The Jamaican has been an iconic cricketer in the T20 format since making his debut in 2005. He has operated as a T20 freelance playing in many T20 leagues around the world. The 37-year old has got his runs at an unbelievable strike rate of 149. He has the most centuries in this format too, a total of 18 tons in 290 games.
Interestingly, Gayle played tonight’s encounter in place of the injured AB De Villiers. He has been struggling to get going of late and has already sat out twice this year so far.
The ‘universal-boss’ as Gayle calls himself, is too good a player to miss out for too long and will get going sooner rather than later. He loves playing the IPL and has more than 3,400 runs in this league so far including 5 centuries and 20 half-centuries.
Gayle has a number of records to his name in his glittering T20 career. His tally of 737 sixes is the highest amongst batsmen with Pollard being second with 459 sixes.
The fact that he is so much ahead of his peer emphasizes his greatness in this format. His records will stand for a very long time and will take a lot of doing to break them.
The left-hander has played 50 T20 for his country scoring 1519 runs which include 2 hundreds. He was instrumental in his country’s two World T20 triumphs in 2012 and 2016.
