Twitter Reactions: Chris Lynn’s 82 unable to save KKR from third consecutive defeat
The Knights bowlers had their moments in the game, but couldn't defend the target.
The Eden Gardens in Kolkata was a witness to a humdinger of a contest between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) turned out to be a closely-fought one. In the end, it was the visiting team, captained by MS Dhoni, won by five wickets with two balls remains. With the defeat, Kolkata lost their third match in succession and need to pull their socks up in the upcoming encounters.
Lynn fights hard
The Super Kings won the toss and had no hesitation to field first. Chris Lynn played his strokes freely, but Sunil Narine couldn’t make an impact and got out to Mitchell Santner for a couple of runs. The left-handed Nitish Rana hit three boundaries and then fell prey to leg-spinner Imran Tahir in the 11th over after getting 21 from 18. Robin Uthappa tried to take the attack to Tahir but perished for a golden duck.
At the other end, Lynn looked in ominous touch and accomplishes his half-century in 36 balls. The Queenslander went on to score 82 from 51 with seven fours and six sixes. Andre Russell succumbed to a rare failure and was nipped out Tahir, who ended up with a four-wicket haul. Keeper Dinesh Karthik and Shubman Gill churned out 18 and 15 runs to take the Knight Riders to 161 for eight in 20 overs.
CSK romp home comfortably
The start wasn’t great for CSK as Harry Gurney trapped Shane Watson plumb in front to strike first blood. Faf du Plessis played some innovative strokes, however, Sunil Narine rattled his woodwork. The South African batsman scored 24 runs from 16 balls with five boundaries. Ambati Rayudu fell for another low score and he mistimed a drive to Uthappa in the cover region off leggie Piyush Chawla.
Kedar Jadhav looked ominous after scoring 20 from 12 and he became Chawla’s second victim. The onus was thereafter on Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni to shepherd the visiting team over the finishing line. The duo mixed caution with aggression. Dhoni got out to Narine for 16. With 24 runs required off the last couple of overs, Ravindra Jadeja pulled off a flurry of fours to take the Super Kings home.
