In a big boost to India's bowling attack, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the inclusion of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah in India's ODI squad for the Sri Lanka series starting January 10. This came as a surprise decision as the bowler was not part of India's initial squad announced on December 27 and there was no update on his recovery status.

The 29-year-old right-arm pacer has been India's key pacer across formats for the last few years but struggled with injuries in 2022. He last played international cricket when he featured in the third T20I during Australia's tour of India in September 2022. Bumrah missed the 2022 Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup 2022 tournament due to injuries and it is safe to say that the team missed their key pacer terribly.

He struggled with his back during the Australia series and many pointed out that the management rushed the player ahead of the World Cup preparations. Bumrah completed his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and the national team's selectors seemed happy with his recovery to include him in the squad for the Sri Lanka tour.

Bumrah's return to the squad definitely boosts India's bowling attack which has copped a lot of criticism lately. Mohammed Shami, Deepak Chahar, and Prasidh Krishna also struggled with injuries in 2022 but Shami is returning to the ODI squad after missing the Bangladesh tour with an injury last month.

Apart from Bumrah and Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, and Mohammed Siraj are also part of India's pace attack for Sri Lanka's ODIs. Captain Rohit Sharma also returns from his thumb injury as the Indian management has named a strong squad with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul included in the fold.

Indian fans have reacted positively to Bumrah's sudden return to international cricket and took to Twitter to express their feelings.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Jasprit Bumrah's return:
