'Gets released and earns millions' - Netizens congratulate Shivam Mavi for INR 6 crore deal with Gujarat Titans
Shivam Mavi became the most expensive uncapped player to play in the IPL this coming season.
Indian pacer Shivam Mavi is set to join defending champions Gujarat Titans as the franchise secured his services for INR 6 crore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction. It was in 2018 when the young pacer made his first appearance in the top-tier league for Kolkata Knight Riders at the age of 19.
The Kolkata franchise showed faith in the pacer by retaining him ahead of the IPL 2021 and Mavi repaid that by scalping 11 wickets in nine outings at a decent economy of 7.24. In the following season, he got to play only six matches in which he picked five wickets at an expensive economy rate of 10.32. As a result, KKR decided to release the player prior to the 2023 mini-auction.
Gujarat Titans have bagged the player for a whopping INR 6 crore, which interestingly also makes him the most expensive uncapped player to play in the IPL this coming season. During his bidding, the Chennai Super Kings swiftly jumped into the biddig alongside KKR. Rajasthan Royals and the defending champions Titans then entered and escalated the bid up to INR 5 crore. Eventually, Titans waited patiently as the Royals decided to pull out.
In 32 IPL outings, the pacer has picked 30 wickets at an average of 31.40 and an economy of 8.71, with his best bowling figures being 4/21. Mavi holds terrific death-bowling skills, which will add a lot to the Gujarat franchise as he brings with him some domestic cricket experience as well. With the experienced setup of the defending champions, Mavi will be gearing up to give his best in the forthcoming season.
