West Indies and Uganda continued their ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 campaign by taking on each other at the Providence Stadium, Guyana, in the 18th game of the tournament on Sunday, June 09. The game began with the West Indies coming in to bat first after winning the toss.

The side got off to a shaky start as opener Brandon King was dismissed for 13 runs in eight deliveries. However, Johnson Charles played a resilient knock, scoring 44 runs in 42 deliveries, alongside Nicholas Pooran, who added 22 runs on the board.

Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford scored 23 and 22 runs, respectively, with Andre Russell staying unbeaten on a score of 30, as the Caribbeans posted a total of 173 runs in the first innings.

As for Uganda, Brian Masaba was the highest wicket taker for his side, with two wickets to his name. Alpesh Ramjani, Cosmas Kyewuta, and Dinesh Nakrani took one wicket each as well.

Bowling masterclass sees West Indies register dominant win

It was a day to forget for Uganda as the side came out to chase the target of 174 runs. The side opened with Roger Mukasa and Simon Ssesazi scoring zero and four runs, respectively. Robinson Obuya also departed for just six runs, with Alpesh Ramjani adding just five runs on the board.

The West Indies’ bowling attack proved to be too much to handle for Uganda, as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Juma Miyagi was the highest run scorer for his side in the second innings with 13* runs to his name, as none of the other batters reached double figures.

Akeal Hosein was the highest wicket taker for the West Indies, with five wickets to his name. Alzarri Joseph took two wickets as well, with Romario Shepherd, Andre Russell, and Gudakesh Motie striking once each as Uganda were bundled out for 39 as the West Indies won the game by 134 runs.
