Twitter Reactions: All-round RCB rediscover winning touch as Delhi Capitals succumb to fifth consecutive defeat
Kohli top-scored for RCB while debutant Vijaykumar Vyshak picked up three wickets.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) locked horns with the struggling Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday, April 15 in the 20th match of the ongoing 16th edition of the Indian Premier League 2023. Not just Delhi, but Bangalore also had been struggling to get back to winning ways and finally, after two back-to-back losses, they managed to get the crucial 2 points after defeating Delhi by __ runs, handing them their fifth consecutive defeat this season.
After losing the toss, RCB were put to bat first. Openers Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli got off to a fiery start as they hit the ground running from the word go. The skipper could not convert his start into a big knock and was dismissed by Mitchell Marsh in the fifth over after scoring a 16-ball 22. Kohli looked unstoppable and went on to notch up his 47th half-century in IPL, which was also his 52nd 50-plus score overall.
Kohli's time on the field came to an end soon after he got his 50 as he was dismissed by Lalit Yadav. RCB then suffered a mini collapse as Mahipal Lomror, Glenn Maxwell, Harshal Patel, and Dinesh Karthik were sent back to the pavilion within three overs' time. It was then the cameo by Shahbaz Ahmed and the impact player Anuj Rawat, which helped RCB get to a decent total of 174/6 in the stipulated 20 overs.
Delhi's start to the chase was miserable as they lost four wickets in the powerplay without having a respectable total on the scoreboard. The out-of-form Prithvi Shaw was dismissed in the very first over after the terrible runout. Wayne Parnell then struck to pick his first wicket in the innings' second over, and Mohammed Siraj dismissed Yash Dhull in the third over to set the tone straight.
To add to their misery, the in-form David Warner was dismissed by Vijaykumar Vyshak, RCB's newest debutant. It was then the half-century by Manish Pandey that kept the scoreboard ticking as Delhi kept their slightest of hopes alive in the game. But Pandey, to his misery, could not build a proper partnership with any of the middle-order batters, except for Axar Patel.
Patel, the all-rounder, too played a decent cameo but RCB bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals which made it impossible for the Delhi batters to chase down the score. Things kept falling out of place for Delhi Capitals, and they were handed another loss in the tournament. While RCB bounced back to winning ways, the David Warner-led side still remains to be the only team without a win this season.
