India defeated Pakistan by six wickets in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. After a humiliating 58-run defeat against New Zealand in their season opener, there were question marks if the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side can bounce back and challenge for a spot in the semi-finals. Pakistan, on the other hand, defeated Bangladesh and their captain Fatima Sana was confident ahead of the India clash. However, their batting let them down.

Indian bowlers were on the point, as Renuka Singh Thakur dismissed Gull Feroza in the very first over. Pakistan struggled from thereon as the conditions weren’t easy for the batters. Veteran cricketer Nida Dar proved to be their best batter with 28 runs while others struggled big time. Towards the fag end, Syeda Aroob Shah played an important cameo of 14 runs which helped Pakistan go past 100.

Arundhati Reddy starred with the ball for India, picking up three wickets. Shreyanka Patil was effective in the middle overs, picking two while Renuka, Deepti Sharma and Asha Sobhana picked one each.

When it came to the chase, star batter Smriti Mandhana departed for just seven runs off 16 deliveries. However, her opening partner Shafali Verma managed to keep the scoreboard ticking with her 32-run knock off 25 balls. Jemimah Rodrigues supported her for the majority time with her 23 off 28.

India were cruising to victory but they lost Jemimah and Richa Ghosh on back-to-back deliveries in the 16th over. It suddenly put the Women in Blue on backfoot as Pakistan gave their all with the ball. However, in the end, they did not have enough runs on the board.

In the penultimate over of the chase, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur injured her neck and had to walk back to the dressing room. She played an important knock of 29 runs, which helped India massively in the middle overs. Sanjeevan Sajana finished the innings with a boundary to help India pick up a crucial win.
