After scoring an important century in the second innings of the second Test in Vizag, Shubman Gill departed for a duck off nine balls on the first morning of the third Test in Rajkot on Thursday, February 15.

Gill had been struggling for runs in red-ball cricket before the start of the second Test. He got dismissed for 34 in the first innings before slamming a 147-ball 104 in the second. The Punjab batter would have hoped to go from strength to strength after this knock. However, all he managed to do was register his second duck in the series.

After India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early, they would have wanted their two most experienced frontline batters - Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill to stitch a big partnership. However, the youngster looked quite uncomfortable against England's pace-bowling duo of Mark Wood and James Anderson. Off the fourth ball of the sixth over of the day, Wood bowled a full delivery to the right-handed batter that angled in before nipping away at the last moment to induce the nick. Ben Foakes made no mistake behind the stumps as the tourists got their second wicket inside the first half an hour of the Test match.

Shubman's average dropped below 31 once again, as he is now averaging 30.79, having scored 1,201 runs in 42 innings in the longest format of the game. Gill has established himself as one of India's most dependable players in the ODI format after performing consistently with the bat over a long period of time. However, he has failed to live up to his expectations in Tests as well as T20Is.

After the 24-year-old was dismissed for a duck for the sixth time in his international career, netizens came down hard on the young batter.
