Twitter Reactions: SRH get Mohammed Shami on board for INR 10 crore
KKR were in the loop till the very end, but Shami ended up being seized by SRH.
The leading wicket-taker at last year's edition of the World Cup, Mohammed Shami, became the first acquisition of the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the mega auction for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League. Shami was the first player to be bid for in the second set for the marquee players in Jeddah.
The Kolkata Knight Riders entered the bidding process. They were immediately joined by the Chennai Super Kings. There was a brief pause in proceedings after KKR bid their amount of INR 8.75 crore, with CSK seeming to have retreated from the process. However, the Lucknow Super Giants made a surprise entry which prompted KKR to keep going.
SRH came into the mix all of a sudden with them bidding INR 10 crore for the star pacer. KKR, who had not roped in any player up until then, did not take another step. The Gujarat Titans did not exercise their Right To Match card. Shami, who has been out of competitive cricket for a long time, just recently made his return to action in the Ranji Trophy for Bengal.
With his prowess with both the new and old ball, Shami is set to add another dimension to SRH's bowling lineup. With all the experience he has gained over the years, he will surely be one of the lead pacers in their arsenal.
