Twitter Reactions: Varun Chakravarthy wreaks havoc against England, secures five-wicket haul in third T20I
For the third time in consecutive games, India won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy continued his sublime run by picking up his second five-wicket haul in the third T20I of the five-match series against England, at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, in Rajkot. He was introduced in the sixth over of the innings, with England rollicking along with 49 on the board till that juncture.
His inaugural over was the first over of the match where no boundaries were scored. He returned to bowl the ninth over from the other end of the ground, and that was when he managed to occupy the wickets column. The last delivery of his second over was when he managed to trap the big fish, opposition skipper Jos Buttler. With Buttler's wicket, it was almost as if half of India's worries had evaporated.
Chakravarthy's final couple of overs was when he applied the brakes on the English batting unit. After being dispatched for a maximum over long-on, Chakravarthy came back superbly well to dismiss Jamie Smith, although off a drag-down. The very next delivery brought about Jamie Overton's downfall, as his attempt to paddle the ball to fine-leg ended horribly, only to see his leg pole go for a walk.
The final three deliveries of Varun Chakravarthy's spell resulted in a couple of dismissals to make him end up securing five wickets in the bag. First, it was Brydon Carse whose sweep ended up in the hands of the fielder at deep square leg. The icing on the cake was Jofra Archer's dismissal on the final delivery of his spell. The drift in the air and the ball skidding off the pitch had Archer absolutely befuddled, as Chakravarthy ended up with 5/24 to his name.
