Twitter Reactions: Cricketing universe reacts to Team India's win
The series score line of 2-1 truly reflects how competitive both teams were throughout the series.
KL Rahul deservingly hit the winning runs, and in the process completed his 6th half-century of the series, to complete a memorable series win against Australia at Dharamsala. It was a hard fought series which saw tempers raised in both camps. The series score line of 2-1 truly reflects how competitive both teams were throughout the series.
India finished one of their busiest home seasons in the recent past on a high, winning all four series. They succumbed to their only loss of the season in this series, which started in September against New Zealand but were good enough to recover from it. Ajinkya Rahane, who led the side in the all-important Test as the regular skipper Virat Kohli was injured, did a commendable job with both his leadership and his batting as India crushed the Australians by 8 wickets-just 18 overs into Day 4.
The long season was a challenge for the bowlers and the spin-twins: Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja stood up at crucial junctures not only with the ball but with the bat as well. The duo collectively picked a whooping 153 wickets between themselves in the season to spin a web around all the four visiting sides. They also contributed with crucial runs to set up games for their side which also allowed the India think-tank to go with 5 bowlers in most of the games. Both the players went from strength to strength and were the main architects of India’s unprecedented back-to-back series wins.
The batsmen, sans the first Test against Australia at Pune, also had an impressive run in the last 7 months. Virat Kohli led from the front and produced those big runs at No. 4 which included 3 double centuries. Yes, he struggled against the Australians in this series but he did play his part in the earlier series.
Chetashwar Pujara played with a lot of authority and was India’s leading run-scorer of the season with 1316 runs which included 4 centuries and 8 half-centuries. The Saurashtra batsman was in prime form this season and contributed with tough runs throughout the season.
Umesh Yadav enjoyed a longer rope in the Test side playing 12 games out of the scheduled 13. The fast bowler used this opportunity to show his mettle in the longer format of the game finishing with 30 wickets. His best series arguably was this one against the Australians where he finished with 17 wickets and out bowled the Australian fast bowlers. Virat has shown a lot of faith in Yadav in the past and the Vidarbha speedster is now delivering the goods for the Indians.
All in all, it was a dream home season for the Indians and arguably their best ever as they went on to win 10 test matches. There was a lot of energy in the group and every member of the squad stood up when it mattered the most.
