After England conceded a huge lead of 215 runs in the first innings, everyone thought the Adelaide Test was done and dusted, but the wily, old fox James Anderson had something else in mind. Jimmy, who dented the Australian top order last evening with a couple of wickets continued the good work on Day 4 as well and got wonderfully complemented by Chris Woakes who bowled equally effectively from the other end.

These two bowlers shared 9 wickets between themselves with Anderson registering a 5-fer, which was his first on the Australian soil, and Woakes finishing with a 4-fer. On the back of the outstanding spells of these two bowlers, the Poms bowled Australia out at a meagre total of 138 to make a grand comeback in the game which seemed to have gone far, far away from them at one point of time.

Chasing a target of over 340 still looked like a mountain to climb considering the fact that the pink ball was going to hoop around corners in the night session, but the England top order showed some spine as they applied themselves against the new ball and made sure the Australian speedsters didn’t run through them.

The Aussies though, once they broke the half-century stand between the openers, got a couple of more back-to-back wickets and managed to push England on the back foot again, but the English captain Joe Root didn’t let that turn into a collapse as he played a gusty knock and stitched a 78-run partnership with Dawid Malan for the 4th wicket to put England onto the driver’s seat.

The late wicket of Malan, however, evened it up a little bit. The game is evenly poised now going into the 5th day and both teams will back themselves to pull off a win tomorrow. It was simply the most interesting day of the on-going Ashes series as England, for the first time, looked like taking on Australia properly and the Twitteratis really enjoyed it as they got to see intriguing Test match Cricket.
