Twitter Reactions: Gautam Gambhir returns to the Test squad after two years
Veteran opener Gautam Gambhir has reaped the rewards of a fruitful domestic season as the BCCI recalled him for the remainder of the of the ongoing three-match series against the visiting New Zealand side.
If selected in the starting XI ahead of Shikhar Dhawan, then we might see him open the with Murali Vijay in the 2nd Test which is set to begin from September 30 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Doors opened for Gautam Gambhir after KL Rahul, the right-hander from Karnataka who opened for India in the first innings, was reported to have suffered a hamstring problem in his right leg this morning. Rahul sustained an injury during the 1st test at Kanpur which India comfortably won by 197 runs.
Gambhir became the talking point in the cricketing circles after BCCI called him for a fitness Test clearly indicating a possible comeback to the side.
Calls for his inclusion in the India’s team became louder and louder after his spectacular run in the recently-concluded Duleep Trophy. He scored 356 runs in three games during the tournament. He led his side India Blue to the title with scores of 94, 36, 90, 59 and 77 to his credit opening the innings.
Gambhir will surely be hoping to make the best of this opportunity. A solid knock in comeback match will not only shun the critics but also become a strong contender for the opening slot. keeping in minds is current form and Inda’s long schedule at home, this is a golden opportunity fo him.
The 34-year-old last played a Test for India against England at The Oval in August 2014.
