It was another high-scoring game, another last-over six and another game which was sealed with a six. Lahore Qalandars won their third game in a row as they hunted down 188 against Peshawar Zalmi to remain in the hunt for the playoffs. While it was Fakhar Zaman and Chris Lynn at the start, David Wiese put the finishing touches when it mattered the most.

Shoaib Malik, Haider Ali take Peshawar Zalmi to 187 after early wobble

It was another toss that Lahore Qalandars won and it seemed like the game was panning out in the same way it did against Quetta Gladiators. Shaheen Afridi was breathing fire early on and Samit Patel was ripping through the top-order. Inside four overs, Peshawar Zalmi were reduced to 24/3.

That’s when the experienced Shoaib Malik and Haider Ali joined hands and bailed the team out of trouble before putting them in a commanding position. The duo weathered the early storm before they started milking the bowlers and attacking them once they were set. It was Malik who started building momentum first before Ali joined in. Both of them scored the 60s as the duo shared a 116-run stand for the fourth wicket.

There was a small cameo towards the end from Carlos Braithwaite as he scored a couple of boundaries en route to his unbeaten 16. Peshawar ended with a very good score of 187/7 from their 20 overs.

Fakhar Zaman, Chris Lynn half-centuries set up the chase

Lahore Qalandars’ skipper Sohail Akhtar put on a 50-run stand with Fakhar Zaman to start the run-chase. However, Akhtar was out for 21 in the seventh over. Chris Lynn joined Zaman and the duo shared a brilliant 96-run stand for the second wicket. Both batsmen struck half-centuries. Zaman made 63 from 46 balls while Lynn got 59 from 32 deliveries.

Qalandars stutter but win in the end

At 146/1, things were looking good for Lahore Qalandars. They were favourites to win with nine wickets in hand. However, Carlos Braithwaite struck thrice while Wahab Riaz picked up the wicket of the well-set Fakhar Zaman to make things very interesting.

When Ben Dunk was dismissed in the 18th over, Lahore needed 28 runs from 13 balls. However, Samit Patel along with David Wiese struck lusty blows and won the game with two balls to spare and the latter struck a six to finish things off.
