Twitter Reactions: Melbourne Renegades blow away the Scorchers at the Perth Stadium
Tremain and Christian ran riot in the second innings.
The Melbourne Renegades have climbed to the second position in the points table with their seventh win of the season. They thrashed the Perth Scorchers by 78 runs to end their campaign officially. The Scorchers succumbed to their eighth defeat in 11 matches and won’t qualify to the knockouts even if the team manages to win all the remaining games.
After opting to bowl first, the Scorchers bowled well to keep Aaron Finch. But his partner Mackenzie Harvey got going as they added 42 runs in less than six overs. Finch’s wicket brought the in-form Sam Harper to the middle who slammed 37 runs off just 26 balls after which there was not much to follow for the Renegades.
The run-rate dipped alarmingly even as Tom Cooper and Mohammad Nabi tried their best. Cameron White got retired hurt which didn’t help the Renegades’ cause either as they finished on 157 runs for the loss of five wickets after 20 overs. Andrew Tye was the most economical bowler for the home side as he conceded only 19 runs while Matthew Kelly returned with the figures of 2/30 from his four overs.
Tremain and Christian run riot
Perth Scorchers would’ve hoped to chase the total down after restricting the opposition to a decent total. But they couldn’t handle the menace of the Renegades pacers. Chris Tremain ran through their top-order during his four-over spell which he bowled on the trot and ended with 3/9. Scorchers’ score read 4/12 after six overs which is one of the lowest in the T20 cricket.
The things only turned worse for the Men in Orange as Daniel Christian took over from Tremain to pick more wickets. Nick Hobson tried to score quickly but the ever-increasing run-rate led to the wickets falling like ninepins. Christian was running riot this time as he returned with the figures which read 4/20 while Cameron Boyce did the rest by scalping 2/16.
Eventually, Perth Scorchers were bundled out for just 79 runs in 16 overs. This win has boosted the chances of Renegades to qualify for the semi-finals as their net run-rate is also improved a lot.
