The iconic Wankhede Stadium was all set to host the Kolkata Knight Riders. The hosts, Mumbai Indians, arrived in to the game with a desperate need to win. Any defeat from the current stage of the tournament is going to makes things very difficult for the defending champions in the race to the playoffs. On the other hand, the visiting side entered the contest with a desperation to strike consistency.

In the game, the Mumbai Indians started off on a very brisk note. However, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowlers pulled things back in the fag end of the innings. Hence, at the half way stage in the game, KKR would believe they have done well enough to restrict the hosts to an underpar total on a flat batting track. Talking about the proceedings, it was the KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik who won the toss and opted to field first.

Promising domestic talent Prasidh Krishna made his debut for KKR, while Nitish Rana also made a comeback to the side. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians opted to go with an unchanged eleven. Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis got off to a very brisk start in the game. Yadav and Lewis added 91 runs for the first wicket in just 56 deliveries. It was Andre Russell who got the first breakthrough for KKR by dismissing Lewis on 43 in the 10th over.

Lewis’ knock came off 28 deliveries with five fours and a couple of sixes. The wicket of Rohit Sharma (11) fell a couple of overs later as the innings took a sudden brake. To make things worse, Suryakumar Yadav got dismissed soon after the reaching his fifty. He scored 59 off 39 deliveries with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Suryakumar became Russell’s second victim in the match.

Once the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav fell, the innings started to fade away. Hardya Pandya tried to regain the momentum with his unbeaten 35 off 20 deliveries but the total still could not breach the 190-mark. Mumbai Indians finished with 181/4 in their stipulated 20 overs.
