After a shock defeat in the second Test match, the visiting Pakistan side had their time to regroup before arriving at Dominica for the third and final Test. The series stood well poised with both teams having one win to their name. The decider had a lot of hype to it for the reason that it was going to be the farewell Test for two of the stalwarts of the Pakistan cricket.

Younis Khan and Misbah Ul Haq were all set to play their farewell game at the venue. What perspired on the day will surely have the visitors in a happy place. On the contrary, the hosts West Indies would have liked to end with a few more picks to their kitty on the first day’s place. The hosts won the toss and opted to bowl first. The conditions looked ideal for swing bowling with dark clouds hovering in the skies.

The same continued as the story of the day. Drizzle, light showers marred the entire day’s of play as only 69 overs could be bowled on the however. For Pakistan, Azhar Ali and Shan Masood walked in to open the innings. Both batsmen took some time to settle in the first few overs. Roston Chase was soon handed the new ball and the pitch showed some sharp turn straight away.

He accounted for the early dismissal of Shan Masood on the day. In walked Babar Azam to join Azhar Ali at the crease. Both looked in sublime touch and added a brilliant 120 run stand for the second wicket. It was Alzarri Joseph who bagged the second wicket for the hosts as he managed to get Azam caught on 55 by Kieran Powell.

An emotional moment beckoned for the fans as Younis Khan walked into bat at number four. He strolled to the pitch with the guard of honor waiting for him. By the end of the day’s play, Azhar Ali and Younis Khan finished with unbeaten scores of 85 and 11 respectively. Their efforts helped Pakistan finish on 169/2 in the 69 overs played on the day.
