Twitter Reactions: Rohit Sharma starts the tour with a big hundred
Rohit Sharma once proved his mettle in the ODI format. He gave a perfect start to 2016 by slamming a ton against Australia. India’s captain MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bat first against Australia in the opening ODI of their five-match series at the WACA Ground in Perth.
Sharma opened the innings with Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan departed soon but, Sharma continued batting in his natural flair. He batted flawlessly and dominated the inexperienced Australian pace attack who were not able create any kind of problem for Sharma.
The special moment came for Sharma in the 37th over after he steered a single off Joel Paris to reach his century. This feat also made him the first Indian centurion at Perth. His century included seven boundaries and three sixes. Sharma soon began to accelerate as the rate of run flow from his bat slowly increased
He batted for a double century stand of 207 runs along with Virat Kohli (91), who himself cruised past his fifty by the time Sharma scored his century. The potentially match-winning partnership between these two ODI specialists came to an end after Virat Kohli was caught at the boundary ropes by Aaron Finch off the bowling of James Faulkner.
Rohit Sharma’s knock has put Australia on the backfoot in the first half of the day itself. However, the Indian bowlers will have to compliment Sharma’s fabulous batting in order to win this match comfortably as the Australian batsmen also pose the same risk on the batting friendly pitch.
India ended their innings on 309/3 with Rohit batting unbeaten on 171. Here is how Twitter celebrated Hitman’s hundred.
