Twitter Reactions: Shahnawaz Dhani and Sohaib Maqsood decimate Lahore Qalandars
The Qalandars slumped to their fourth defeat on the trot to end with five wins from 10 matches,
Multan Sultans have made an incredible comeback in the 2021 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). After winning only one out of their first five games, the Mohammad Rizwan-led unit has won all their four matches in the second leg at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. On Friday, June 18, they beat the Lahore Qalandars, captained by Sohail Akhtar, by a mammoth margin of 80 runs.
Maqsood top scores
After electing to field first, the Qalandars started decently as Shaheen Shah Afridi nipped out Shan Masood for a golden duck. Mohammad Rizwan crawled to a 20-ball 15 before becoming Haris Rauf’s victim. Thereafter, Rashid Khan trapped Johnson Charles in front.
Amidst the regular fall of wickets, Sohaib Maqsood kept the scoreboard ticking and notched a half-century off a mere 27 balls. He got the apt support from Rilee Rossouw, who started slowly but picked up the pace to end on a 24-ball 29.
But once Rossouw perished, the Sultans’ innings slowed down. Maqsood got out after scoring 60 runs off 40 balls with three fours and four sixes. In the end, Sohail Tanvir’s cameo of 26 off nine made sure that the Sultans post a competitive score of 169 for eight in their 20 overs.
Lahore Qalandars capitulate
Chasing down targets has been the Achilles heel for the Qalandars. Things didn’t change on Friday as they slumped in their fourth consecutive run-chase. Ben Dunk was promoted up the order with Akhtar demoting himself to five, but neither of them could score big.
Fakhar Zaman, their leading run-scorer, got out in the fifth over and Lahore’s innings could never take off at any stage. Mohammad Hafeez’s dreadful run of form continued. Tim David, one of their more in-form batters, fell prey cheaply as well.
James Faulkner’s 11-ball 22 gave momentary relief to the Qalandars, but it couldn’t even take them past the 100-run mark as they were shot out for 89 in only 15.1 overs. Shahnawaz Dhani picked up four wickets in 3.1 overs. Imran Khan was also impressive with three wickets.
