Twitter Reactions: Shane Watson and James Vince guide Thunder to victory
As Pat Cummins took the single to complete the win for the Sydney Thunder, it was the skipper Shane Watson who had smashed his way to an impressive half-century to ensure that they completed an impressive win. As for the Hobart Hurricanes, they had the dubious honor of adding to their losses, something that has been culminating towards a place away from the semifinal berth after a promising start to the campaign.
The Hurricanes openers had a surprisingly bad start to the innings as both D’Arcy Short and Tim Paine simply could not get off to the start they are so capable of. However, the innings was pulled back on track when Ben McDermott and George Bailey impressed with some tremendous batting acumen.
The duo stitched a partnership of 46 runs, something that certainly got George Bailey back to his original best with the bat. Bailey initially played second fiddle to the impressive McDermott. However, when the latter lost his wicket, it was clear that Bailey was not yet ready to throw in the towel.
While the hero of the previous match Beau Webster did not get going, the finishing touches were added by Jonathan Wells impressed with some tremendous batting as he smashed a quickfire 26.
The Thunder got off to a decent start when they smashed the ball to different parts of the ground. Kurtis Patterson and England’s James Vince began the innings by smashing the ball to an impressive 62-run partnership before Shane Watson unleashed his bat on the likes of Clive Rose and Stuart Broad.
Five sixes were smashed from the bat of Shane Watson as he went ahead and ensured that the Thunder would go on a clinch a rather comfortable win with three overs to play. Even 35-year old Ben Roher chipped in with an impressive and unbeaten 28.
