Twitter Reactions: South African batsmen implode against the Indian Spin Duo
Twitter Reactions: South African batsmen implode against the Indian Spin Duo: The signs were ominous. The curator had tailor made the pitch for the spinners, and the visitors were warned well ahead about what was coming at them. Not a dust-bowl, but there was a lot of assistance towards the spinners. It needed some patient and quality batting from both the teams, not only the visitors alone, to make a mark in this tricky, “result oriented ” pitch. And after a day and a session later, an impending sense of deja vu has cropped up, as India gains the upper hand after a 136 run lead, thanks to some classic spin bowling from R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
Once the Indians were bowled out for 215 in the final session, the warning signs were up for the visitors. The pitch was not an easy one to bat on, and it required some qulity time on the crease to make an impact on this testing pitch. For India, Murali Vijay and Ravindra Jadeja did exactly that, and helped India to cross 200, a par score on this pitch. With just about 9 overs left for the day, the openers had to survive 8 overs of spin. But the opener van Zyl fell to Ashwin for the 4th consecutive time in the series. Jadeja was too ht to handle for the nightwatchman Tahir. At 11-2, danger signs were already up for the visitors, and spin was confirmed to be their main itenary for the coming day.
But what we witnessed in the first session of the test match was nothing short of extraordinary. While both Ashwin and Jadeja weaved magic, the South Africa batsmen were just horrendous with their batting. Only JP Duminy showed up to play with some respite, but he too fell at the fag end of the innings. The visitors were cleaned up for 79, their lowest ever score against India.
On light to India’s superb bowling performance, and hara-kiri from the South Africans, Twitter Reactions: South African batsmen implode against the Indian Spin Duo:
