Twitter reacts as Chennai Super Kings shell out Rs 5.5 crore for Sam Curran
Sam Curran played for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2019.
Sam Curran, the seaming all-rounder from England certainly attracted many buyers in the IPL 2020 auction but couldn’t go past the price that Kings XI Punjab got him for in the previous season. However, he was bought by the three-time IPL champion Chennai Super Kings after an intense bidding war that held between the franchises to get him in their corners.
The young all-rounder made his IPL debut in the previous season as he was bought by KXIP after paying a whopping amount of Rs 8 crores. He also impressed the fans with his impressive performances in IPL 2019 in his debut season. Curran also became the youngest player in the history of Indian Premier League to take a hattrick. However, his inconsistency in bowling and batting turned out to be the main reason behind his exclusion from the Punjab based franchise.
Chennai Super Kings buys England seaming all-rounder
Earlier this year in November, KXIP released him which surprised many. Amidst all the build-up, there was a question ahead of the auction if Curran could get a buyer or not as there were very less number of overseas players slots available in every team.
However, as soon as the auctioneer took the name of the young all-rounder, Delhi Capitals became the first to open the bid on his base price of 1 Crore and were joined by Chennai Super Kings. Both the heavyweights were involved in an intense bidding war and none of the two teams looked in a mood to back down. It is well known that the IPL teams have always shown their faith on the left arm pace all-rounders.
After an intense session in the auction, CSK won the bidding war and successfully managed to bag Sam Curran in their team for the upcoming IPL season. The three-time IPL champions rake up 5.5 Crore in order to add the England all-rounder in their ranks.
Sam Curran is a brilliant all-rounder who can contribute with the bat and ball. He has played 69 T20s in which he has grabbed 63 wickets and mustered 838 runs at a good strike rate of 130.93. In last one and a half year, he has certainly earned a reputation of a convincing player and proved to be an asset for all the sides he has played so far across formats.
Twitterati was stunned to see Curran raking a lot of money yet again in the auction and was poured with ample of wishes from every nook and corner across the globe.
