Twitter trolls Shane Warne for tagging a whole host of cricketers while asking about postponement of IPL 2020
Former IPL-winner Shane Warne-- just like many other fans-- had taken to Twitter to ask regarding the commencement of the tournament.
The entire world is grappling with the rising proliferation of the pandemic that is the novel coronavirus. And, the sporting world has been affected to its core via its onslaught. Most of the sporting events like the Premier League, La Liga, NBA have been postponed in the wake of the steadily escalating situation.
As far as cricket is concerned, Australia Women tour of South Africa, Road Safety World Series, Asia XI vs World XI T20Is, England Test tour of South Africa and India-South Africa ODIs have either been postponed or cancelled.
The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League has also been plagued by the pandemic- that has thus far claimed more than 4000 lives and has proliferated in 80-plus countries. With the Indian Government putting a hold on the visas of foreign Internationals till April 13th and the Ministry of External Affairs advising the Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI] to consider suspending the 2020 edition of the IPL, question marks had galore around the viability of staging the cash-rich league.
Shane Warne takes the Twitter route to ask about IPL 2020
Former IPL-winner Shane Warne– just like many other fans– had taken to Twitter to ask the same question. But, the champion leg-spinner went a bit overbored and tag a whole host of cricketers– Virat Kohli, Michael Vaughan, Kevin Pieterson, Virender Sehwag, Kuldeep Yadav, Ricky Ponting– including the handles of Rajasthan Royals, BCCI Domestic and IPL.
Warne wrote– “Another question followers as I just received a very interesting message !!!! Is it true the @BCCI are postponing the @IPL @imVkohli @MichaelVaughan @KP24 @virendersehwag @rajasthanroyals @StarSportsIndia @ajinkyarahane88 @Edged_and_taken @imkuldeep18 @BCCIdomestic @RickyPonting”
Warne was subsequently roasted by the Netizens, reminding the champion leg-spinner that he has tagged everyone except the ‘the man who will actually take decisions”- BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.
Meanwhile, the BCCI, via a press release- confirmed that the 13th edition of the IPL has been postponed till 15th April. According to reports, more doubleheaders will be added to the schedule and the tournament will most likely be played behind closed doors, unless, of course, the situation changes dramatically, which is looking increasingly unlikely at the moment.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend IPL 2020 till 15th April 2020, as a precautionary measure against the ongoing Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) situation,” BCCI said via a press release.
