Mumbai Indians’ wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has suffered an eye injury during his side’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Mumbai. Kishan has been an excellent addition to the side this season and is batting at the crucial number 3 spot for the Mumbai unit. Despite getting dismissed for a duck today, he has had a couple of good knocks under his belt.

Whilst keeping the wickets in the second innings, Kishan failed to collect the ball properly off a throw after the ball had bounced awkwardly. The ball hit him just above the eye, he almost went down with that blow and he clearly was in a lot of pain. His teammates rushed to the spot and the physios tried to do what all they could. He eventually was taken off the field and was given a massive ovation by the Wankhede crowd as he was walking back to the dressing room.

The seriousness of Kishan’s injury is still unknown but clearly, the area around the eye was all bruised and it might take a few days for him to recover. The youngster cost an awful lot of money and has been justifying his price tag with some impressive performance with the bat and also behind the stumps as a keeper.

Aditya Tare takes the keeping gloves

Aditya Tare was the only backup option available for the Mumbai Indians at that point of time and he was not a part of the playing XI. He was urged to take the gloves and keep wickets for the remainder of the match. Incidentally, he also became the first ever cricketer in IPL history to have substituted a wicketkeeper.

Mumbai Indians had posted a humongous 213 runs despite losing two wickets off the first two balls of the innings. Evin Lewis and Rohit Sharma accumulated a lot of runs at a decent rate and helped their side get into a commanding position. Rohit Sharma fell just 6 runs short off a well-deserved century but had done the job for his side. MI had a good game overall as they managed first points on the table against Virat Kohli’s RCB.

Twitterati was in shock after the incident and wished him a speedy recovery:
