Twitterati wants Mayank Agarwal to replace Shikhar Dhawan as Test opener
Dhawan scored 39 runs across both the innings at Edgbaston.
Shikhar Dhawan’s form on overseas tours has always come under the scanner. Nothing has changed even this time as he hasn’t scored runs to warrant his selection in the team. Despite bagging the pair in the only warm-up game, the team management persisted with him in the series opener and he failed to repay the faith yet again. Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal are piling on the runs for ‘A’ side as the fans are demanding them to be picked in the side for the last two Test matches.
The BCCI has announced the Test squad for the first three matches of the five-match series and there is a possibility that they might have to take some tough calls for the last couple of games. The kind of form Agarwal has shown in the last domestic season has been putting the selectors under pressure to pick him in the national side. To top it off, he has scored a double-hundred in the ongoing four-day game against South Africa A in Bengaluru.
Will Agarwal make it to the Test side?
Looking at the form of the batsmen apart from Virat Kohli, the selection panel led by MSK Prasad might be tempted to include Mayank Agarwal in the Test side. He was with the India A side which toured England recently ad fared decently in limited opportunities as well. His inclusion might also bring a fresh change at the top order for Team India who is persisting with the same set of players for a long time now.
Moreover, the record of Dhawan is not improving as well and even Murali Vijay is looking a pale shadow of himself. The middle-order, especially Kohli is being put under pressure every now and then. The same happened at Edgbaston and the visitors lost the game by 31 runs.
The fans were livid with Dhawan’s show in the first Test and they want him to be immediately dropped from the team. Mayank Agarwal is the front-runner to replace him if Dhawan is indeed sacked after the third Test.
