West Indies skipper Jason Holder rued the fact that they lost their star batsman Evin Lewis at a crucial juncture in the fourth ODI against England. In the fourth ODI, the West Indies team seemed to be cruising with Evin Lewis going great guns. His record shattering ton saw the Windies side finish with a mammoth score of 356.

However, they were unfortunate to have finished on the losing side after rain played spoilsport for them. England still needed some more chase to be done when the rain interfered. They were 6 runs ahead on the DL par score and hence went ahead with the win. The win in the fixture gave them an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the series.

Speaking in the post match presentation, Windies skipper Jason Holder credited the efforts of Evin Lewis. Lewis, who hit 176 off just 130 balls before getting retired hurt, was absolutely sensational to watch on the day. Holder also had a word of praise for pacer Alzarri Joseph who bagged a five-for in the match.

Lewis ruled out of the 5th ODI

“Lewis really set the tone for us. Unfortunately, we lost him at the last stage. Credit to him, outstanding innings. He had to adjust to the situation. When he gets in, he goes big. He showed that today. He absorbed a lot of pressure. We always have liked the potential of Alzarri,” quoted Jason Holder.

Credits to Alzarri as well

Alzarri, at 20 years, became the youngest player from West Indies to take a five wicket haul in ODIs. Holder appreciated the way he bowled and had his regrets about leaking too many boundaries when Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali were at the crease.

“He got us back in the game after a poor start. It’s encouraging. It’s difficult to say. Too many boundaries. Buttler came in and played a good innings and so did Moeen Ali. I was aware of the DLS situation. It happens in cricket,” mentioned the Windies skipper.
