Fans were entertained with some high-quality batting during the two group stage matches of IPL 2022 on May 1 (Sunday). During the first match between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals, LSG skipper KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda, and Rishabh Pant were seen in action. The second match witnessed a masterful knock from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ruturaj Gaikwad.

In the first match, LSG won their third straight encounter after beating the Capitals by six runs. After winning the toss, LSG opted to bat. KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock came out all guns blazing as they posted 42 runs in just 4.2 overs before De Kock perished. However, skipper  Rahul continued his good run with the bat and formed an excellent partnership with Deepak Hooda. As a result, LSG posted 195 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, the Capitals had the worst possible start as both of their openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner were sent back to the pavilion. Mitchell Marsh (37 off 20 balls) and skipper Rishabh Pant (44 off 30 balls) took control of the innings. However, DC kept losing wickets at regular intervals and despite some late blitz from Rovman Powell and Axar Patel, their team lost the match by six runs. LSG pacer Mohsin Khan was adjudged player of the match for picking up four wickets.

CSK overhauled SRH in the second match

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway thrashed SRH bowlers as CSK managed to post a huge total of 202 in their allotted 20 overs at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium, Pune. In reply, SRH batters gave a good response to the Yellow Army as batters Abhishek Sharma, skipper Kane Williamson, and Nicholas Pooran took on the CSK bowlers.

However, it was too much to ask from the Orange Army as they fell short by 13 runs. For CSK, Pacer Mukesh Choudhary was the pick of the bowlers scalping four wickets. Mitchell Santner and Dwaine Pretorius also scalped one wicket each. Gaikwad was adjudged player of the match for his knock of 99 runs.

Both new entrants Gujarat Titans (GT) and LSG are currently placed right at the top of the points table. Meanwhile, SRH has now lost four out of nine matches and is placed fourth in the table. The Yellow Army has now won three matches, but they are still placed in the second last position.
