Vellaswamy Vanitha gets hit by a ball receiving a painful injury
The batter now sports a bruised lower lip and a few cuts
Former India International and Karnataka batter Vellaswamy Vanitha recently faced the brunt of the hard ball up front as she got struck in the face while playing without a helmet or any protective gear. Thankfully, the Karnataka batswoman got away with any major scare and only suffered a bruise and few cuts on the lips.
The 27-year-old cricketer, took to her Instagram account to let one and all know about the lucky escape she did not sport any protective gear while taking on the bowler.
Here’s the post:
Vellaswamy Vanitha, unfortunately, was not a part of the successful Women’ s World Cup squad which featured in England a few months back. She last played an ODI back in 2014 against South Africa. Vanitha was a part of the T20I series against West Indies Women back in November 2016.
In the 16 T20Is, she has represented India so far, she has put on 216 runs for her country at a strike rate of 109 and top score 41. She has not quite been able to cement her place in the ODI side and featured in only 6 matches Internationally.
Here’s a look at some of the nastiest injuries:
On the basis of the above video, surprisingly it is Brett Lee who has featured the most number to times where batsmen have faced the wrath of his bouncers even after putting on a helmet. Batsmen such as Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Kennedy Obuya, Andrew Strauss, Alex Tudor, and Rahul Dravid have all been injured while facing the express fast bowler.
Next in line is not surprisingly Shoaib Akhtar who injured Gary Kirsten and Brian Lara. Both batsmen were lying flat on the turf in shock. Perhaps, the nastiest ones are the balls which find a way through the helmet. Rilee Rossouw and Daniel Flynn faced the maximum impact as deliveries from Lasith Malinga and James Anderson struck their face hard. Flynn also lost a tooth in the process.
