Vijay Hazare Trophy 2015: Round 3 review: The Vijay Hazare Trophy was filled with cricketing action. Amit Mishra took a hat-trick while Mumbai thrashed Assam. UP scripted a winning tale and Punjab won big. Let’s have a look at how the events unfolded.

1. Amit Mishra’s hat-trick guides Haryana to big win

22 overs were all Jammu & Kashmir could manage, as Amit Mishra’s hat-trick summed up the entire scenario. But the star of the match was Harshal Patel, who scalped five wickets for 21 runs and scored an unbeaten half century to guide Haryana to a 10-wicket win.

Haryana 76/0, 11 overs (Patel 54*) beat Jammu & Kashmir (toss) 75/10, 22 overs (Bandeep Singh 24; Patel 5/21, Mishra 3/4) by ten wickets.

2. Mumbai gets the better of Assam 

Shreyas Iyer’s 49 was the only bright point in what turned out to be an otherwise dull Mumbai batting performance. Assam’s bowling line up packed a punch with Mumbai managing only 198 before getting bowled out in the penultimate ball. But Assam were left wanted, as Dhawal Kulkarni led the Mumbai attack to hand a 96 run win against hapless Assam.

Mumbai 198/10, 49.5 overs (Iyer 49, Suryakumar Yadav 42; Amit Verma 2/23) beat Assam 102/10, 35 overs (Amit Verma 33; Kulkarni 4/19, Trivedi 3/29, Nayar 3/37) by 96 runs.

3. Vidarbha shatters Baroda

R Thakur was impressive with his bowling, picking up four wickets to shoot down Baroda for 173. Chasing 174, Fazal led Vidarbha’s batting order with a 117 ball- 89 while Badrinath’s unbeaten 47 saw the team through with 8 overs to spare.

Vidarbha (toss) 174/3, 42 overs (Fazal 89, Badrinath 47*; Pandya 1/52) beat Baroda 173/10, 46 overs (Rayudu 40; Thakur 4/27) by seven wickets.

4. Punjab makes Tamil Nadu pay for wayward bowling

The top order clicked for Tamil Nadu, as the top five batters got solid starts but only Dinesh Karthik made it big with a stylish 69. Siddharth Kaul picked up 4 wickets for 17 runs while Barinder Singh chipped in with 3 wickets. Chasing 227, Jiwanjot Singh plundered the indiscipline Tamil Nadu attack for 10 boundaries, as Mayank Siddana gave the finishing touch with his unbeaten 67 to seal the game by 6 wickets inside 45 overs.

Punjab (toss) 230/4, 44.5 overs (Jiwanjot Singh 85, Sidhana 67; Sathish 2/23) beat  Tamil Nadu 226/10, 45.3 overs (Karthik 69, Aparajith 39; Kaul 4/17) by six wickets

5. Madhya Pradesh peeps past Goa

Swapnil Asnodkar was among runs, as he made a gutsy 68 while Bandekar’s run a ball 68 gave Goa a total of 214 in 43.2 overs. Madhya Pradesh looked impressive, forming crucial partnerships at the top of the order. Jalaj Saxena’s good form continued with the bat, this time scoring 69, where as Harpreet’s unbeaten 74 gave MP crucial 4 points.

Madhya Pradesh 215/3, 42.2 overs (Harpreet Singh 74*, Saxena 69; Jakati 2/49) beat Goa (toss) 214/10, 43.2 overs (Bandekar 68, Asnodkar 68; Saxena 2/21, Datey 2/34) by seven wickets.

6. Maharashtra gets an easy outing

Kedar Jadhav’s swashbuckling knock of 90 ball- 131 gave Maharashtra an easy win against Tripura. Gugale picked up 4 wickets, as Tripura were bundled out for 183 in 49.5 overs. Tail-ender S.Majumder scored a half century for Tripura which went on a losing cause.

Maharashtra (toss) 294/10, 49.4 overs (Jadhav 131; Banik 4/40) beat Tripura 183/10, 49.5 overs (Majumder 52; Gugale 4/21) by 111 runs.

7. Services grabs 4 points

Hyderabad fought their way to 224 in 50 overs but couldn’t stop Services from chasing the total, as the Servicemen reached the asking task with 7 balls to spare. Mumtaz Qadir top scored with 68.

Services 225/5, 48.5 overs (Qadir 68, Paliwal 64; Kiran 2/41) beat Hyderabad (toss) 224/7, 50 overs (Naidu 45*, Milind 42*; Bloch 3/34) by five wickets.

8. Gujarat all “Gung-ho”

Gujarat batted well with Arindam Ghosh scoring an unbeaten 96. Mahesh Rawat also supported the former striker well with a solid 60. In reply, Axar Patel found some form scoring a quick-fire 75 from 59 balls. R Bhatt also scored a valuable 72, as Gujarat chased down 260 with 2 balls to spare.

Gujarat (toss) 260/6, 49.4 overs (Axar Patel 75, Rujul Bhatt 72; Karn Sharma 2/38) beat Railways 259/5, 50 overs (Ghosh 96*, Rawat 60; Axar Patel 1/35) by four wickets.

9. Gambhir guides Delhi to big win 

Natraj Behera’s 50 helped Odisha settle for 225 in 50 overs. Manan Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 47 runs. Skipper Gautam Gambhir led Delhi from the front, scoring 67 runs from 82 balls. Milind also chipped in with unbeaten 62, as Delhi trumped Odisha by 5 wickets.

Delhi (toss) 228/5, 46.3 overs (Gambhir 67, Milind Kumar 62; Sahoo 2/58) beat Odisha 225/9, 50 overs (Behera 50, Samantray 47; Manan Sharma 3/47 by five wickets.

10. Jharkhand earns vital points

Kerala notched up 236 runs in 50 overs, with Sachin Baby top-scoring with 61. Chasing a tricky 237 to win, Jharkhand didn’t falter, as Saurabh Tiwary turned out to be the saviour, scoring 87 crucial runs to see the team through. Skipper MS Dhoni couldn’t capitalize on the start, but he will be happy to see Jharkhand play well.

Jharkhand (toss) 240/5, 47 overs (Tiwary 87*, Kaushal Singh 48; Prasanth 1/29) beat Kerala 236/8, 50 overs (Sachin Baby 61, Jagadeesh 60; Shukla 3/47) by five wickets.

11. UP beats Bengal in the battle of equals

Sudip Chatterjee celebrated the good season with another big knock. He missed out on a century by 3 runs, but Bengal managed to pile up 221. In reply, Umang Sharma and Prashant Gupta build a solid start, as both the openers shared a 88 runs partnership. Umang Sharma made 73, and Rinku Singh ensured no further hiccups, with UP reaching the target in the 47th over.

Uttar Pradesh 222/6, 46.4 overs (Umang Sharma 73, Prashant Gupta 47; Shami 2/52) beat Bengal (toss) 221/10, 48.3 overs (Sudip Chatterjee 97; Javed 4/40, Chawla 3/53) by four wickets.
