Vijay Hazare Trophy 2015: Yuvraj Singh leads Punjab to a victory over Rajasthan

Punjab registered a six-wicket victory over Rajasthan in the game played today (15th December 2015) at Railways Recreation Club Ground, Secunderabad.

Electing to field on winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh led Punjab were successful in restricting Rajasthan to 270/7 in their allotted 50 overs. This in spite of a well made century by Rajasthan wicketkeeper-opener, Manender Singh. Facing 129 deliveries, Singh scored 118 runs, aided by 7 sixes and 3 fours.

Punjab’s left-arm medium pacer, Brainder Sran claimed 4 wickets, giving away 60 runs in 9 overs. Chasing 271 runs for a win, Punjab put on 273 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 44.4 overs.

Openers Jiwanjot Singh (66) and Pargat Singh (25) gave a good start and put up 60 runs for the first wicket in 12.5 overs. This was further consolidated by the second-wicket partnership, yielding 83 runs between Jiwanjot Singh and Mandeep Singh (60).

Yuvraj Singh joined Jiwanjot at the team score of 143/2 in the 27th over. He went on to score an unbeaten 78* runs off 59 deliveries with 10 fours, 2 sixes, at a strike rate of 132.20 and in the process was also involved in a 75-run partnership for the fifth-wicket along with Mayank Siddana (24*).

With this win, Punjab have won 4 out of 5 games. They are at the top of the Group A Points Table with 16 points and +0.385 Net Run Rate.

They play their next game against Services on 18th December 2015, at the same venue.
