Former and current cricketers have been praising Indian skipper Virat Kohli for his record breaking 235 runs knock against England in the recently concluded 4th Test in Mumbai. This was his 3rd Test double ton in the year 2016 after registering one each against West Indies and New Zealand. This giant effort saw him join an elite list of batsmen to achieve this feat (3 or more double-centuries in a calendar year).

He is also the first Indian and 5th player in the overall list which is headed by former Australia skipper Michael Clarke and included the likes of Sir Don Bradman, Brendon McCullum and Kumar Sangakkara. These performances have made him the most dominant batsman this calendar year.

The past couple of days has only about enjoying all the compliments. The latest to join the long list of admirers happens to be Clarke who, during a recent chat on twitter, regarded Kohli as “the best batsman” in the world.

Kohli’s super knock combined with centuries from Jayant Yadav and Murali Vijay’s and Ravichandran Ashwin’s dominant bowling performance saw India defeat England by an innings and 36 runs in the 4th Test at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Monday. The win took Indian 3-0 up in the series and secured the series 3-0 to regain the Anthony De Mello Trophy which they had lost to the visitors back in 2012.

This series win has now stretched India’s unbeaten streak to five series, equaling their previous purple patch which took place from October 2008 to January 2010. After taking over captaincy from MS Dhoni during the Australia tour last year, Kohli has registered series wins over South Africa (in India), Sri Lanka (in Sri Lanka), West Indies (in West Indies), New Zealand (in India) and now England (in India).
