Even though India lost its match against the Southern Stars yesterday, yet it was a special day for Indian Cricket as Mithali Raj became the leading run scorer in ODIs and also surpassed the 6000 ODI run milestone. Social media showered in with praises for Mithali as the Indian men’s captain Virat Kohli goofed up his congratulatory message. Instead of posting a picture of Mithali Raj, Kohli uploaded a picture of Poonam Raut, who scored a century yesterday.

Various other renowned cricketing personalities tweeted about the accomplishment of Sachin Tendulkar of Women’s Cricket. Ajinkya Rahane, Gautam Gambhir, Mayanti Langer, VVS Laxman, Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, Vikram Chandra, Isa Guha, Lisa Sthalekar and many others lauded the efforts of Raj who overhauled Charlotte Edward’s tally of 5992 ODI runs to become the highest run-scorer in ODI cricket.

Kohli’s error

Virat Kohli‘s Facebook handle, while trying to appreciate the feat of Raj on behalf of the Indian captain, uploaded the picture of Poonam Raut who scored a valiant knock of 106 in a losing cause. India was precariously placed with the team losing its first wicket for mere 9 runs. Their in-form batter Smriti Mandhana departed by not scoring much. That was when the captain played a watchful knock, stitching a vital partnership yet again with Raut this time. In the process, she achieved her unique feat to make it a special day for Cricket for Women in the country.

Although the post has been removed now, the caption said, “A great moment for Indian Cricket, Mithali Raj becomes the highest run scorer in Women’s ODI Cricket History today. Champion Stuff!” with a picture of Poonam Raut instead of Mithali Raj in it. Given the amount of respect and praises she earned yesterday, Raj wouldn’t mind the mess up and is most likely to forgive the Indian Captain who has had a long gruelling season.
