In the last few years, the Decision Review System or as it is commonly called the DRS  has acquired a parallel definition — the Dhoni Review System thanks to the Indian Twitter users and the reasons are obvious. Dhoni’s record with DRS has been impeccable. His immaculate judgment on a DRS decision has been hailed by fans and pundits alike. Time and again, Virat Kohli has been seen referring to Dhoni before reviewing a decision.

However, during the third ODI against Australia on Friday, the India skipper decided to go against his predecessor and paid the price for it. During the very second over of the game, Jasprit Bumrah hit Aaron Finch on the pads. It looked close, prompting Bumrah and his teammates to go up in unison. However, the umpire gave his decision in favour of the batsman. Upon seeing that Bumrah immediately approached skipper Kohli to review the decision while Dhoni also came forward.

Kohli was then seen asking something from Dhoni before it became clear that the latter was not very convinced. Kohli, however, decided to go for the review only to realise that his senior teammate was once again spot on. HawkEye showed that the ball was going over the stumps as India wasted their only review of the innings.

Here is the clip showing that incident:

Finch and Khawaja punish India:

After that early hiccup, Finch played a flawless inning of 93 while his opening partner Usman Khawaja struck his maiden ton. The duo shared a huge stand of 193 runs to help Australia pile up 313 for 5 in the must-win clash.

In reply, India started poorly and were reeling at 27 for 3 at one stage. However, Kohli scored a stunning ton to revive the chase. But before Kohli could take India close, Adam Zampa ended his 123-run knock and all but seal the hosts’ fate. India were eventually all out for 281.
