Virat Kohli reveals the Edgbaston knock as the second best of his Test career
He also commended the efforts of Umesh and Ishant who supported him really well.
Virat Kohli raised his bat for the 22nd time in his illustrious Test career after reaching the three-figure mark at Edgbaston on Thursday. The innings was filled with grit and determination as he had to fight for his runs from the word go. England tried to unsettle him constantly by bowling a teasing line outside the off-stump but he never succumbed to it and fought his way to a masterful 149-run knock. However, the man himself has rated it as the second best hundred of his career.
Virat still feels that the century he scored in Adelaide four years was more special. He had smashed 141 runs in the steep chase while facing the deadly bowling attack comprising of Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris and Peter Siddle. There was a serious banter going on between him and Johnson which had geed him up as he went on play one of the best ever Test knocks down under.
“I am not sure. This (knock) could probably come in second to Adelaide. Adelaide still remains very special to me because it was second innings and we were chasing a target. I had total clarity that we are going for the target. Not once did I think that we are not. That was a beautiful zone to be in,” he said while speaking to BCCI after the end of the second day.
Captain commends the efforts of tailenders
Virat Kohli was also all praise of the effort put in by Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav who supported him brilliantly. India added 92 runs for the last two wickets after they were left reeling at 182/8 staring down the barrel in the first Test.
“I have to commend the tail as well. Hardik batted really well and then the way Ishant and Umesh applied themselves, I think it was an outstanding effort from them also. So I have to give a lot of credit to them for getting us this close because they got stuck in there and supported me really well and I could feel confident about them being out there which is very important. I am very very proud of both of them,” captain fantastic added.
